So who is our target audience?

Age: In our pre-production stage, me and my group all discussed that our core target audience for our opening sequence young people, predominantly girls and love couples who are aged between 15-25. Although younger teens may also be suited for this movie as nowadays, many teenagers start relationships at a much younger age so may relate to this.

Why?: From research, I found that around the majority of people who attend cinema are young people, so there would be a wider interest for our movie if we targeted them. If we were to distribute this film it will be out around Valentines Day, so the target audience would be predominantly couples, who may relate to this movie or find it cute.

Other movies with the same genre as us such as 'Wild Child' also targeted a similar audience, and they we successful, with many teens and young adults going to see the movie. Many movies like these ones have a niche of teenage girls, and even young adults who may watch them as a way of 'escaping' life as they are so light-hearted. Therefore, I think this movie would make an immediate appeal to many people, whether some want to relate or just watch for their own fun.

Our secondary audience would be older adolescence and adults. The issues we have explored and are going to explore in our actual film may be experienced not only by younger people but also older adults, therefore they are our secondary audience, who may also enjoy this movie.

Overall, the people we would expect to watch 'Snakes and Ladders' is anyone who wishes to watch a film that is relaxing but also takes them on a journey as they watch the young couple go through struggles, highs and lows in their relationship (hence the name of our movie Snakes and Ladders).

Gender: The target audience for our gender would be mainly girls, as we found out that from the questionnaires we had conducted prior to starting the film, it was mainly girls who enjoyed watching these cheesy, romantic, chick flick movies. However, we still have targeted boys as well, especially if they have girlfriends and they can watch the movie together.

Lifestyle/ Attitudes to life: The genre of  our romantic/ coming-of-age and so this is aimed at people who just want to relax while watching the film, where no tension/ fear or shock is intended, unlike a horror movie. Therefore, this movie would be for anyone who just wants to enjoy themselves with a day out with friends, family or their partners.

Fandom/ expertise: I have found out that young teenage girls form the most fandoms such as One Direction or Justin Bieber fans, and they are all ranged from 12- 18. Therefore, to attract these fandom of girls, we have wanted to use things which they would like, such as a good-looking guy to play the male character who were a gentle-man, young, caring and all those characteristics that young teenage girls would admire.

Nationality: We have targeted this film to any nationalities, and anyone who is interested in the film can watch it. However, we did find that people in Western Cutlures (i.e. U.S.A and UK)  are likely to be our primary target audience because they placed greater interest in these type or romantic/ coming-of -age films than perhaps teenagers in Non-Western cultures.
